Report on the SMA Trust’s recent activities
The SMA Trust enjoyed an exciting and successful year. Our core research work has grown, as have our international activities and connections.
Our sponsorship of research has been central to what is being achieved. See Research Projects on this website.
The European Call for Projects
The Trust has been active in initiating a European Call for Projects as part of SMA Europe (the umbrella group of patient organisations), which was launched in October 2008. The fith call has now taken place, and new exciting projects will be selected for funding by SMA Europe's Scientific Advisory Board in Utrecht, in March 2013.
Working with the Clinical Trials Community
The Trust is deeply committed to facilitating the preparation of the UK for clinical trials by leading the way to the creation of the first UK SMA Platform. Great Ormond Street Research Physiotherapist, Jess O’Hagen, has been recruited as a first step towards this goal. She will advise and help to drive clinical trials forward, both in the UK and overseas.
Working with the Jennifer Trust for SMA (JTSMA)
In October 2011, the SMA Trust has, together with the JTSMA, organised the annual UK Researchers’ Conference. This was held at the Belfry in Oxford.
